Where would you start to make your own home made dog food?

Have you decided to feed your dog a raw meat dog food diet but a concerned about the costs? You can prepare everything for your dog’s diet right at home, and by buying in bulk and preparing it yourself you will save money. Now are you wondering where to start? The thought of creating home made dog food might be overwhelming if you don’t know where to start. Home made dog food does not have to be overwhelming; in fact with a little bit of planning you will be able to quickly and efficiently prepare an entire week’s or month’s worth of healthy meals for your pet in no time.

The first thing that you need to do is prepare your work space and be sure that you have all of the ingredients together. Chicken necks and backs or carcasses or wings can be divided into meal sized portions and frozen. Raw meaty bones of beef, venison, buffalo or lamb can be frozen individually, allowing one or more bones to be removed from the freezer at a time. You may need to grind the chicken parts or larger meat items for an elderly or sick dog or for a dog that is in transition to the raw food diet. Sometimes people grind for their puppies, but many breeders use whole pieces of raw meaty bone when weaning. Place the ground product in meal sized Tupperware containers or plastic bags laid flat for freezing and storing.
Puree a mixture of raw veggies and freeze them separately or mix them with ground meat and organs. Some people like to mix the raw, crushed vegetables into ground meat and create patties that can be thawed and served easily. When you make your own home made dog food you will get to know your dog’s favorite combinations. Remember to label and date the packages so you know what you are taking out of the freezer when it is time to feed your dog a b.a.r.f. meal. Don’t forget to clean the counter and utensils with hot soapy water and you are done!
